About The Image
Fall around Alvaton will remove all doubt about what the best time of year is in Kentucky. The colors seem to take their time to develop and putter along through September and into October, but by the end of October a transformation takes place almsot overnight where the trees change suddenly and the colors rival New England. The world around Alvaton explodes with yellow and red and orange and burgundy splattered with a few diehard greens to add contrast. This image was taken during the first week of November in 2005. As I walked down this country lane, never before had I seen so much yellow. The entire woods was set ablaze by it. It was a dark, blustery day with shafts of sunlight breaking through the trees. The exposure was tricky as I needed a lot of DOF, yet the leaves were vibrating in the wind which required a faster shutter speed. I compromised the best I could and timed the shutter release perfectly as a shaft of sunlight crossed the road.
