About The Image
After 34 years, I returned to my old Coast Guard unit in Winchester Bay Oregon in May of 2007. I wasn't sure what to expect, but any fears I had about what might happen were quickly laid to rest as my 14 year old son and I were warmly greated. The hghlight came when were given a ride on one of their new 47 foot surfboats. It was a great thrill. This image was captured the day before we were given that ride. Timing is everything to a photographer and once I heard the crew od Station Umpqua River fire off the CG47218, I anticipated where they might be heading and positioned myself to good advantage. The sun was setting and cast a pale aura across the harbor. As the CG47218 idled by, the warm reflection of the evening sun was caught by her superstructure and  hull...and subsequently by my camera.
